I used to always wonder why people released so many compilations and "Best of" albums, until I realized that most of my albums are no longer available and people still ask for them. We cannot reproduce them all, and few people would want to buy 4 or 5 albums anyway, so for the first time, a collection from all of them. With 22 songs and almost one hour and fifteen of music, by far the fullest album I have ever released! Due to great demand from the Polish community, this album also includes for the first time on CD, SAN DAMIANO, a song which topped the Polish charts for several weeks and was also Top 20 in Britain. The songs on this complilation are those which have proved most popular over the years and some of my own personal favourites.

Nine years ago I was invited to make my first Christian album for a glorious budget of 2,000 pounds (about 3,300 dollars). Having previously recorded albums with budgets of 50,000 - 70,000 pounds, I didn't know if it was possible, but decided to find out. The result was not pleasing to me from a production point of view, but the album LOOK AT CHRIST has continued to be in heavy demand long since stocks ran out. It featured a more acoustic sound than most of my albums. It also started the journey I am still on, as a musical missionary.

By the time the follow up, THROUGH ANCIENT EYES was released, I was touring Europe and the USA with a fulltime band, and that album captured something of the excitement of young musicians interacting. Most of the songs were played live before we recorded them, and the sound you get is pretty well the sound of the band at the time - not too many frills added to the production! I personally learned a lot from studying the Old Testament texts for the songs on this set.

When BORN TO DIE came out, the band was no more, as we were simply not earning enough to sustain everybody. It was also a big gamble, as we decided for the first time to try an independant release, so as to bring in a little more ministry money. The gamble paid off - it sold far better than we ever expected, and remains one of my personal favourites. People always said they missed the visuals of the live events, so I tried to paint sound sculptures with this.

Before making a drastic change of direction, I wanted a permanent record of how a concert had developed after seven years of ministry. Frequently people had asked for the preaching too, but I was never sure if that could work on CD. Supporters often said the CDs didn't capture the atmosphere of the live event, so for the first and only time in my long recording career came LIVE! Few people get a second chance at recording older songs, so it was fun to record the new arrangements that move the live audiences.

Then for the Year 2000 a complete change of direction - ANNO DOMINI, a Mass for the Millennium - different sound, different subject, different method, and maybe the world's first completely laptop produced album? Some people even thought I had taken the songs from different cultures due to the variety of styles and sounds. It has been fun using this music in a completely new setting in various parts of the world, and still is at the time of writing! A hint of future direction? Right now, I just don't know!

PILGRIMAGE was my first album produced in the USA.

"Sal Solo was ahead of his time with the music called New Romance, now known as Gothic. Funny how life, time and God's will changes people. Here I am working for the Catholic Music Network and Sal Solo is making Catholic Music. Sal got out of the popular music business, but if you listen to his current CDs you know he NEVER lost what made him popular and got him so many #1 hits in Europe. If you want a taste of Sal Solo, pick up Pilgrimage: The Gospel Best Of Sal Solo. "No Other God" is vintage Sal Solo of the early days with a wonderful message. The song that recently hit me was "Father's House." On the last day of 2000, the feast of the Holy Family, the reading during the Mass depicts Mary and Joseph looking for a young Jesus and finding Him in "His Father's House". This song is about that passage."
