Lansing MI

It is quite rare that we do young adult events, as distinct from youth rallies, (usually only once or twice a year), and for the Diocese of Lansing, this was their first Young Adult Conference in 5 years. A fairly small group of people mostly in their twenties gathered in Ann Arbor on a bright Saturday morning, with open minds and a joyful spirit. After an introduction from Diocesan Director Pat Rinker, came the Evang-a-Ganza and they responded enthusiastically with hand motions and with prayer. Ann Arbor is where the Catholic charismatic movement began in the 70s, and a few of those present belonged to a local charismatic ministry.

Workshops were next in the program, and ours was YOU HAVE A CALL, concentrating on vocation. The older agegroups of those present allowed for a little deeper exploration of the topics. Later Pat Rinker gave a talk on the theme for the day "Your Vocation is to Love" and we provided songs for Mass to close the formal part of the program. After dinner there was music and the chance to mingle and get to know some of those present. Young adults are of course usually much more confident than the teens, and ready to talk about themselves feely and ask questions.

Pat said the evaluations were almost unanimously EXCELLENT with only a couple of negatives about publicity for the event. They plan to make this an annual conference now, and Pat said "You will be seeing me again..."
